okay so i am getting ready to move and so I am keeping my self focused...
this is what i want to focus on:
How do you plan to use what you have learned?
A Foundation for Total Urban Health
· I believe that all people should have access to healers as well as the tools for sustainable health.
· I believe that as Ayurveda is holistic, a good approach to bring ayurveda to the masses in the United States of America (USA) is through programs that they recognize.
· Truly sustainable health is having to tools and knowledge to make good choices and understanding the consequences of all decisions.
I am devising a self-sustaining urban center that encourages all levels of interest in a client’s needs, abilities, interests and aptitude. But, first, people need to have accessibility to healers and teachers. The center will build it’s own Foundation. The Foundation will find and provide funding for clients who are unable to pay for portions of their treatment. Other bartering methods will also be explored in order to allow the greatest amount of accessibility to health.
Sustainable health is how I think of the difference between an intrinsic and well paced adjustment to a client’s lifestyle and a crash diet. I don’t think people can or should simply adopt an entirely new practice or diet to achieve any long term goal. In order for a person to achieve the goal of health, the practitioner must see how that client will respond to various lifestyle adjustments. Having a client “bite off more than he can chew” for instance or providing an unreasonable amount of information, puts Ayurvedic philosophies and knowledge in jeopardy to that client. Lifestyle becomes a thing: Ayurveda and Ayurvedic knowledge become mystical and hard to obtain. I believe Ayurveda to be extremely practical introduce by a teacher or practitioner who allows their client to absorb as much as they can: no more, no less.
As I don’t think a person has to adopt an “Ayurvedic Lifestyle” and Vedantic Philosophy in order to begin her journey into lasting health, I do think that we can express, live and teach the principles of Ayurveda through practices that people are comfortable with. For instance, I come from a background in theatre. I practiced forms of yoga for many years before I knew it was yoga. It is always better for a student to have background knowledge of a subject in order to build good positive associations with new knowledge. I plan to implement theatre, art, a restaurant and cooking classes into the center.
This center includes, of course an Ayurvedic healing center or clinic as well as classes geared toward people who want to increase their own knowledge of Ayurveda in principle and person practices.
I have dedicated many research hours to building this project. At this point, I am in communication with a real estate developer, a project manager, and financiers. I have promises from potential partners in the juvenile prison arts program, local universities, a theatre, and local restaurants. I am trying to organize a three phase plan the will be ready for me as I complete my studies in Albuquerque.
